Peter Thiel famously quipped that we asked for flying cars and got 140 characters. While this app is hardly the most useless web 2.0 creation, this misallocation of capital is playing out in AI. People's lives would measurably be improved by application of these tools in the world of atoms: ubiquitous self- driving, helper robots, waste sorting, advanced on shore manufacturing, etc. While those efforts are underway, they would be much further along if the capital went there instead of various tools to short circuit the hard but necessary task of human thinking.
