Paul Atkins: Regulation Should Not Become a Procrustean Bed That Stifles Innovation Paul Atkins, Chairman of the U.S. SEC, has announced the launch of a new initiative called “Project Crypto,” aimed at advancing on-chain integration and regulatory innovation within U.S. capital markets. He noted that most existing regulations were designed for traditional manufacturing-based enterprises and are ill-suited to address product structures centered around crypto assets. To address this gap, the SEC will review and potentially repeal “outdated rules” that are no longer applicable to the crypto sector, in order to support the development of tokenized assets and emerging financial models such as super-apps. Atkins also acknowledged the inherent uncertainty surrounding the future form of finance, emphasizing that the SEC must adopt an open and inclusive regulatory posture to avoid becoming a roadblock to innovation.
