Fal just raised a $125M Series C. What you see on the platform today looks nothing like what they were building 3 years ago when I first invested at Seed. That evolution has been one of the most important lessons for me as a venture investor. a 🧵

Today, we're thrilled to announce our $125M Series C funding round at a $1.5B valuation, led by Meritech Capital, marking our third successful raise in just 12 months! fal’s Generative Media Cloud now powers tens of thousands of applications, supporting over two million developers and more than 300 enterprise customers. From initial prototypes to fully scaled production, we've become the essential infrastructure enabling some of the most innovative and creative work in the industry. Over the past year alone, we've experienced extraordinary growth—averaging 40% month-over-month, consistently exceeding our own ambitious projections. Each month, hundreds of thousands of new developers and thousands of fresh applications join our platform, unlocking entirely new use cases previously thought impossible. With this latest round of funding, we're significantly scaling our engineering, support, sales, and marketing teams to keep pace with the accelerating demand and enthusiasm from our community. Our vision has always been clear: build a generative media platform that effortlessly creates dynamic, real-time content across video, audio, image, and 3D. Thanks to our incredible team, dedicated partners, and visionary customers, that's precisely what fal delivers today—empowering creativity at unprecedented scale.
/ When I met @burkaygur and @gorkemyurt , they were focused on dbt-fal - a Python cloud for data pipelines. Think Vercel or Netlify, but for Python and data. Underloved space. Big ambition.
/ From day 1, their hustle and hunger were undeniable. They had this rare talent: making complex infra problems feel exciting, fun. They could spot a market phenomenon and spin it into a movement, even a meme. Yes, the GPU Rich / GPU Poor hats were everywhere. Let’s not forget when "Unbundling Airflow" lit up DC 2021.
/ Then came Stable Diffusion. I’ll admit, I didn’t totally get the pivot to image inference at first. The team told me “Give us 3 months and let us experiment. I think we can repurpose the existing infrastructure to meet this explosive demand.”.
/ I was skeptical. I told them so. But like all great founders, they listened, acknowledged, and then did what they believed in anyway.
/ The next 6 months were the most remarkable journey. They iterated and shipped fast, by that, I mean FAST. Every major image and video model launch, they were either there right at the moment or ready before the world woke up to it.
/ That kind of speed doesn’t happen without conviction, obsession, and sheer love for the work.
/ Behind the memes and momentum are two of the kindest, most resilient founders I’ve worked with. Competing against better-funded, more “central-casting” teams, they’ve managed to build Fal with grit, joy, and serious technical firepower.
/ Today’s milestone is a celebration, it’s far from the finish line. Fal powers tens of thousands of devs and is quietly becoming critical infra for the most creative and dynamic applications in AI.
/ I’m so proud and so grateful to have the opportunity to keep backing this team. Huge congrats @burkaygur, @gorkemyurt, @isidentical and everyone at Fal on your Series C.
