WHAT: Mountain West (MW) has merged operations with Newmark (NMRK) in Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana and Reno. MW has signed a long term affiliation agreement with NMRK and has rebranded the combined operations as "Newmark Mountain West". The transaction is the largest of it kind in this region in at least 25 yrs, if not ever. The combined company brings an unprecedented assembly of talent, data, transaction volume and clients under one roof with the same local, independent ownership but now with the global breadth and depth of the Newmark platform. WHY: From our founding 16 years ago, we've strived to be “The Best Brokerage” in this region, it was literally written in our founding mission statement, remains there today and continues to guide our every decision. We started with just 5 brokers dedicated to creating a culture unlike any other. Most ppl in the industry laughed when we’d tell them we wanted to be the best. I don’t blame them, for years it seemed, to them, an unattainable and ridiculous pursuit. At times, it felt we were the only ones that believed. However, we put our head down through ALOT of good and bad and we chipped away day after day, year after year. We've never aspired to be the biggest. I've always felt that's a vain, misguided pursuit. When that becomes your prime directive, you make hollow biz and mgmt decisions that compromise the company culture. We have and will continue to make every decision based on our continued pursuit of being "THE BEST".  If the biproduct of that makes us the "THE BIGGEST", which probably by nearly every industry metric it now does, so be it. But it's of limited import to us.
